“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
– Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764
The right to bear arms is no different than the right to practice freedom of religion. Its a basic constitutional right that every American has. The right to practice your choice of religion is not peculiar to only areas under federal control, such as in Washington D. C., but applies in all states, municipalities, etc. as well. The Supreme Court struck down the ban on owning guns in Washington and it can hardly not do to the same among states and cities. This has been a long time coming and its time this was resolved in favor of our constitutional right we all have.
It’s time this Brady bill is examined for what it is. Adolf Hitler could have written this one himself. Being a convicted felon I feel unduly punished. I fulfilled my obligation and I want my guns back. I understand not being allowed a hand gun but, I like to hunt and I can’t with my fingers. I did kill a deer this year (2009). Chased him down and took him with a knife. 8 points. My felony had nothing to do with weapons of any kind and I see no reason to not be allowed my shot gun and a hunting rifle. I’ve never harmed anyone with a gun nor have I threatened. How is this law helping?
This gun control crap makes no sense. The planes that were hijacked to take down the twin towers were not taken with firearms. Taken with razor blade in box cutters. Are we going to outlaw them now? The plane that hit the Pentagon was taken with nail clippers. Should we outlaw them? There are more stabbings and hackings with machete’s and axes than people are shot with firearms. Will we regulate knives and hatchets? How about highway deaths? Cars next? Guns are not the problem. I would use mine to supplement my food supply.
“The measures adopted to restore public order are: First of all, the elimination of the so-called subversive elements. … They were elements of disorder and subversion. On the morrow of each conflict I gave the categorical order to confiscate the largest possible number of weapons of every sort and kind. This confiscation, which continues with the utmost energy, has given satisfactory results.”
“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
–Mao Tse Tung
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.”
“Both oligarch and tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of their arms.”
“1935 will go down in History! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient and the world will follow our lead to the future!”
– Adolf Hitler
“If the opposition (citizen) disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves.”
– Josef Stalin

“Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal”
